This report, “Underground Works and the Environment”, develops a theoretical framework and at the same time shows and analyses the results from the international survey and 13 case studies. It is structured in two parts, the main document and three annexes including summaries of answers to the questionnaire, the case studies and a glossary of environmental terms.The main document is divided into the following chapters:
Environmental legislative framework.
This section summarizes the international opinion surveyed by the questionnaire, including the characteristics of the environmental legislation considered for underground works, the effects of the environmental legislation on different economical agents and the different ways for the new market opportunities to compensate the disadvantages of the environmental legislation. Inventory of environmental aspects. In this chapter an inventory of the main environmental aspects classified by inert, biotic and human media is identified.
